ICHS Bloom Campaign Case Study

Project Objective

Rather than hosting a traditional fundraising gala or luncheon, International Community Health Services (ICHS) Foundation in Seattle, Washington, held a month-long online fundraising campaign called the Bloom Campaign. To support the campaign and encourage people to donate, they wanted to create a series of videos telling the stories of the people they serve. Deeply rooted in the Asian Pacific Islander community, ICHS provides culturally and linguistically appropriate health and wellness services and promotes health equity for all.

Our Solution

A nonprofit fundraising consultant, Ariel Glassman from Common Great, with whom we had worked on other projects in the Seattle area, contacted us to execute this project. We had a good working relationship and she knew she could trust our team! Ariel is very organized and already had a video brief with guidelines for each of the four videos the ICHS team wanted produced, including a mission/overview video, how the organization pivoted during Covid to serve the community differently, a senior care piece, and a youth video.

We loved learning about this wonderful organization that believes that everyone deserves access to culturally specific, quality health care. We found out that an ICHS clinic was the first in the United States with a confirmed Covid case! They quickly pivoted to telehealth and provided iPads to their community members to combat the big digital divide and literacy issues.

How We Made it Happen

We worked closely with Ariel and the ICHS team during the pre-production phase to:

  • Learn about the goals of the campaign

  • Ensure we captured all the key messages for each video

  • Plan the shots for each location

  • Review interview questions that Ariel crafted

We decided that we could conduct all interviews and capture all B-roll footage at multiple locations over three days for all the videos. Since ICHS is a healthcare organization, there are strict rules about who can be filmed, so the ICHS team helped organize who we could film, get release forms signed, and provided archival B-roll and photos for us to use during the editing process.

Ariel was an integral part of the team, as she helped coordinate the interviews, was on-site with our videographer to conduct the interviews and to serve as a liaison between our team and the ICHS team.

One of the interview subjects spoke Mandarin and Heidi, ICHS Foundation Executive Director, translated and then gave us the translations with time codes, which was very helpful for editing and captioning!

These projects are definitely team efforts and we were grateful to have such a caring, professional, and conscientious team to work with.

"6162 Productions was a great partner for the ICHS campaign videos,” says Ariel. “They were so responsive to changes in our plan, including those necessitated by the complex privacy regulations around health care service providers. We had a lot of cooks in the kitchen on video strategy, and the 6162 team was able to navigate that with ease. I'm proud of the stories we told together to help raise funds for this great cause."
